First, weed out your stuff and get rid of things you don’t want or need. Even in small spaces, we all tend to accumulate things we won’t use that someone else could. Run them to a thrift store and feel like a good person.

Second, clean and organize your things. If your apartment is tidy and things are where they belong, packing is easier.

Get boxes and packing tape, more than you think you’ll need. Pack by room and label the boxes with the room and the general nature of the contents. If you really need your scissors, the box that says BEDROOM-DESK DRAWERS makes it easy to Relocation Services know where to look.

Pack a FIRST NIGHT box with the essentials: bedding, towels, a change of clothes, basic grooming items, soap, a shower curtain and rings, whatever you know you’ll need.

See if people will help you move. Ideally, on moving day you’ll have a few volunteers. Do not buy them alcohol until the job is done. Then beer and pizza is most welcome. If you have no help, take over as much as your car can hold, doing one room at a time, in as many trips as it takes.
